UP Open 2010...Press Release



July –Aug 2010: UP State Open Squash Championship July 30th to 01st Aug 2010

The newly renovated Squash Complex in Noida Stadium was the host of one of the most popular squash events in the region over the weekend. The event saw the presence of all the top players in Northern India converging for the event with a record 358 entries in nine categories ( Women – 3 and Men -6 ) ranging from Under 13 to over 40 for men with representation from Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Bareilly, Dhampur, Chandigarh, Delhi and the NCR.

The event was held under the aegis of the UP State Squash Association (UPSRA)and was organized by the District Gautam Budh Nagar Squash Racket Association ( DGBNSRA).The 4 glass back courts complex with a wide viewing gallery within a stadium complex is an excellent facility and we must be thankful to Noida administration for having given these facilities stated Dr NK Pandey Secretary UPSRA.

The Noida Centre for Squash under the mentorship of Lalit Verma, Wg Cdr Bir Singh & nationally acclaimed squash coach Puneet Singh is attracting young talent even from Delhi and many of the children are seeded among the top 8 in the country including two national champions in a short span of less than two years stated Dr Tarun Sahni President of the DGBNSRA

The Mens & Womens Final was a closely fought event followed by the Prize Distribution carried out by Mr Pramod Aggarwal IAS Director Sports MOS&YA, Shri CB Singh Deputy CEO Noida and Dr Bharatinder Singh Chief Medical Officer for the Commonwealth games.

Final Results : Mens Open : Karm Kumar beat Amjad Khan (3-0(11-7, 11-4, 11-8); Women’s Open : Vishrutyi Sahni beat Janet Vidhi (3-2(9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5);Boys U19: Shakir Hussain best Ishaan Ghosh 3-0(11-5, 11-9, 11-7); Girls U19:Tanvi Khanna Beat Vishrutyi Sahni 3-2(11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 4-11, 11-6); Boys U17 : Divij Singh beat Aditya Advani 3-2(11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6); Boys Under 15 : Ranjeet Singh beat Rajat Sharma 3-2 (11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-3); Girls Under 15 : Tanvi Khanna beat Anna Awasthi 3-0(11-6, 11-5, 11-4); Boys U13 Ranjeet Singh beat Junaid Muzzafar 3-0 (11-8, 13-11, 11-6) ; Mens Over 40 : Lalit Advani beat Nikhil Pant ; 3-0(11-4, 11-6, 11-4)

Indians shine at the Milo All Star Squash Tournament 2010

Indian Squash Academy trainees Ravi Dixit and Kush Kumar win the Milo All Star Malaysian Junior Open being held in Kuala Lumpur from 7-12 June 2010.
Ravi Dixit wins Boys Under 19 category for the second consecutive time defeating 2 seed Mohd Zul Azri( Mas) in straight games 11-5,11-7,12-10. In semi finals he beat Mujahid Hussain ( Pak) 11-2, 13-11,13-11. Ravi played with confidence thought his final hitting winners at will from all parts of the court. Down in the 3rd game 3-8 Ravi played disciplined squash without making any error to defeat his opponent in the tie breaker.
In the Boys under 15 category Kush Kumar won the finals beating Vin Tan (Mas) 11-7, (Conceded) . Vin Tan conceded due to an injury that occurred in the match. In the semi finals he beat Chris Lo Cheuk (Mas) 13-11,12-10,11-6 .
"We are very happy to win the gold medals for India" echoed both Ravi and Kush "we want to thank the federation, our coaches and our school for all their support" said the boys

There was more to cheer In the Boys Under 11 Category as Dev Vazirani from Mumbai upsets the top seed Eugene Heng (Mas) 11-9.9-11,3-11,11-9,11-8 in semi final . Hammas Ahmed Tarar from Pakistan defeated Dev in finals in straight games 11-8,11-5,11-1.

Northern India Inter School Squash Championships 2010 announced

As the euphoria for Common Wealth Games 2010 gains momentum, the Northern India Inter School Squash Championships 2010 are being announced. All school roads will lead to New Delhi in April 2010 where we shall witness boys and girls from some of the top Squash playing day-scholar and boarding schools converge. Schools that do not have teams need not worry, as we also have the Open Events for both boys and girls.

All participants are assured lots of fun, tough and competitive matches, the chance to make new friends and most importantly....to play for the honor of their schools!!

Details are as follows:

Dates: 12 April 2010 to 18 April 2010.
We request schools to mark this week in April 2010 so that we can have maximum participation
City: New Delhi
Team Events: (as per SRFI norms; 4 members per team)

* Boys Under 15 and Under 19 categories

* Girls Under 15 and Under 19 categories

Open Events:

* Boys Under 13/15/17/19 categories
* Girls Under 13/15/17/19 categories

Students appearing for their Class XII Board Exams in 2010 can also take part in Under 19 Categories (Open & Team Events) if their age is less than 19 years as on 1 April 2010.

Participation Certificates, Championship t-shirts and Merit Certificates (as per performance) shall be awarded. School Coaches and markers too would be rewarded and honored for the hard work they put in.

Participation Forms, Schedules, Event Dates, Venues, Boarding & Lodging details, etc shall be uploaded at this site within the next fortnight.

So, schools, kids, coaches & parents....warm up to the City of the CW Games 2010. Delhi awaits you!!
